Spooktacular Myths About CPAP Therapy

Myth: CPAP Machines are loud.

 Fact: Newer CPAP machines are quiet and compact.

 

Myth: Only obese or overweight people have sleep apnea.

Fact: Sleep apnea is not exclusive to those who are overweight. Age can play more of a role then weight. Commonly patients are diagnosed in middle-age when a natural loss in muscle tone has attributed to the airway obstruction.

 

Myth: CPAP masks are large and uncomfortable.

 Fact: CPAP masks continue to evolve and improve, the newer styles are minimal, lightweight, and comfortable.

 

Myth: It is impossible to travel with CPAP.

Fact: CPAP machines are compact, and many come with a carry case. Often, considered a free carry on with Airlines in addition to your other carry on.

 

Myth: Oral appliances are better than CPAP therapy.

 Fact: Oral appliances are not recommended to treat moderate to severe sleep apnea and are often uncomfortable and painful.

 

Myth: If I lose weight, I will not need CPAP.

 Fact: Weight is not the only consideration for sleep apnea, so although it may help it is unlikely that therapy will no longer be needed after weight loss.
