Sleep Apnea in Men

Did you know that sleep apnea in men is remarkably common! Studies show approximately 24% of young middle-aged men and 70% of older men suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep insufficiency has become a major health crisis and it is important to properly treat for your safety and health. Common symptoms are excessive daytime sleepiness, or finding it hard to focus on tasks, waking up with headaches and unwarranted fatigue. But there are other risk factors to look for as well. People with small airways or recessed chins, small jaws or a large overbite are more likely to have sleep apnea. Also, the circumference of your neck can play a role too as someone with a larger neck is more likely to develop sleep apnea. If you are a man and your neck size is seventeen inches or wider you are at a greater risk of having sleep apnea. Talk to your Doctor if you have noticed any of these warning signs.
