Let’s Talk CPAP Humidification!

Did you know that when using CPAP therapy, the nasal airways are unable to provide sufficient humidity to humidify the increased airflow? This results in the nasal mucosa being stripped of the moisture required to humidify the air. Using the humification feature on your CPAP/APAP or BIPAP device can make a positive difference to your therapy and comfort.  By warming and moistening the air you are breathing, it can help to prevent dry nose and throat and may even help to keep your mouth closed while you sleep.

Each device has a specific humidification setting which can be increased or decreased depending on the level of humidity you require or prefer. Seasonally you may even want to adjust your humidity level especially if switching from air conditioning to heat or vice versa in your home.

Distilled water is always recommended when using your humidifier, and the water should be changed daily in your water chamber.

The water chamber is the removable container that holds the distilled water in your humidifier. The water chamber should be cleaned weekly using warm soapy water and replaced every six months of use.
